Come hear John McDonough and Rep. Liz Malia at the JP Forum
October 17th 6:30 pm
First Church JP | in the Parish Hall
Co-hosted with Addams Richards Tubman Institute
We welcome back former Jamaica Plain State Representative John McDonough, the champion of the Massachusetts health care system, which served as a national model for the Affordable Care Act. John and current State Representative Liz Malia will reflect on two decades of working to expand quality health care coverage. They will be joined by Boston City Councilor Matt O’Malley and other special guests.
The cuts being proposed by our administration would have especially devastating consequences for nearly 40 million women who rely on the Affordable Care Act. Women will suffer a harsh, dissproportionate impact from the proposed healthcare cuts. Women make up the majority of Medicaid beneficiers, are primary utilizers of family planning and maternity care benefits and are much more likely to use the healthcare support long-term as they age. Even private health insurance would see cuts because it would allow states to opt out of the ACA’s Essential Health Benefits (EHB standard), leaving many women with out affordable access – or any access to maternity coverage.
How can we help secure the crucial healthcare so many Americans have come to depend on? Is the Medicare-for-All Bill Sen. Sanders (with 15 Co-Sponsors) proposing possible?
Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world. -Harriet Tubman
